Motor Skills

If you have further concerns about motor skills, please download the relevant form and send it to me.

If dyspraxia is indicated, then I follow SASC guidelines. Under 16 “In children, motor coordination difficulties may be noted and described in a SpLD assessment, but DCD / dyspraxia cannot be diagnosed without a motor assessment and children should always be referred to a G.P. Ideally, a multi-disciplinary team of medical, allied health and educational /psychological specialists would work together, for example at a clinic, to provide assessment and support recommendations but this situation does not exist everywhere in the UK, although there are models of good NHS practice in various parts of the UK.” Over 16 I can say if the client “shows significant features consistent with DCD / dyspraxia, shows a profile of DCD / dyspraxia.”

Maths

If you have further concerns about maths, please download the relevant form and send it to me.

I follow the SASC guidelines for dyscalculia: “Recommendations for interventions and reasonable adjustments should be clearly linked to o The individual’s difficulties reported in the background information and evidenced in the assessor’s quantitative and/or qualitative analysis of performance in tests. o The individual’s needs within the classroom, course or job. Wherever possible recommendations should be developed collaboratively with relevant mathematics specialists in the individual’s school, course or workplace. Reasonable adjustments should be appropriately targeted to address the need without potentially giving the individual an unfair advantage. Assessors should bear in mind that adjustments such as use of a calculator or provision of rest breaks can sometimes target the need more effectively than additional time.”

Please give me school/college contact details so I can send them the relevant form for primary or secondary students.
